Authentic Alchemy • Episode 22: Your Brand Is Killing Your Leads
Three ways to stop the lead bleed
Let’s face it. When you’re trying to get a business going or keep it growing, leads are everything. Leads measure your ability to show your value and present a clear outcome path that benefits both sides.
You’re doing the work. You’ve created the look, the messaging, the presence. You’re out in the world. You’re seeing interest. But those leads are not turning into real, tangible results, and you’re left frustrated.
You can feel that something is off, but you can’t see where you’re bleeding out.
Welcome to your brand triage. This is where we stop the lead bleed.
I’m Dustin Byerley. I’ve spent three decades developing brands, helping people uncover who they are, build from truth, and create with clarity.

Problem One. Your message is unclear.
Most people cannot tell me in one sentence what they do and why it matters. They talk in circles. They hide behind pretty words. They try to sound impressive instead of exact.
Here is the problem with that. A buyer will only give you about five seconds of attention before their brain decides yes or no. If they cannot understand what you do and why it matters to them in those five seconds, they back off. They do not argue. They just don’t move.
That stall is where you’re losing leads. It’s not your ad. It’s not the algorithm. It’s clarity.
If you want to test this, do this right now. Ask someone who does not already know you, “What do you think I do?” If they cannot answer in plain language, your message is bleeding out your pipeline.
Fix number one. Write one clean sentence that starts with “I help” or “I build” or “I make.” Say who you serve and what outcome you create. No filler. No fluff. That single sentence is the front door to your brand. Until that is clear, people will keep pausing.

Problem Two. Your outside story does not match your actual value.
This is the trust break.
You show up one way, you describe yourself another way, and what you actually deliver is a third thing. You look hyper-polished but you’re actually intimate and custom. Or you present soft and vague when in reality you are direct and surgical. That split is why people hesitate. They can feel something is off even if they like you.
Humans are wired to back away from mismatch. If I get one story visually, hear a different story verbally, and feel a different energy when you talk, my body says “no.” I will not say no to your face. I will just not buy.
That is how most brands kill leads without knowing it.
This is where most people make it worse. They try to fix it with “more content.” More posts. More noise. More visual tricks. That only makes the break louder.
Here is what you do instead. Bring the outside into alignment with the real thing.
Ask yourself this and answer honestly: “If someone hires me, what do they actually get from me that they cannot get from someone else?” Say that out loud. That is the core. That is what belongs on your site, in your deck, in your bio, in your intro line.
When the way you talk, the way you look, and the way you actually deliver start telling the same story, people stop hesitating. That feeling is called coherence. Coherence creates trust. Trust converts.

Problem Three. You don’t tell them what to do next.
You describe yourself. You share your work. You show proof. You talk about your beliefs. Then you just leave them sitting there. No next step. No call. No invite. No ask.
A lead without direction dies quietly.
People need to know what to do with the energy you just created in them. If you do not direct it, it drains.
Your fix here is simple. At every touchpoint, give one next step. One. Not five. One.
Book a call. Buy this. Download this. Apply here. Send this email. Claim your slot. Whatever the real next move is for you, speak it clearly.
When you do that, the lead does not float off and disappear. They move, because you told them how to move.

This is the silent bleed. It is quiet. It’s happening every single time someone lands on you. You feel the slow drag in your sales and you think it is reach, or timing, or “the market.” Most of the time it’s this.
The good news. You can start fixing it today.
What I say often is that business is inherently a relationship. A lot of people get so excited about their vision that they forget about how the customer is actually experiencing them. That shift in perspective alone is a huge step in the right direction. From there, learning a few fundamental techniques in communication and brand coherence will take you the rest of the way.
Start here. Write one true sentence about what you do and who it is for. Then describe the value they receive. This can be resolving a pain point, entertainment, or meeting an emotional or societal need. Bring your language, your visuals, and your actual delivery path into alignment so they say what you defined in your true sentence and it all feels like one thing. Give people one clear next step in every touch.
That alone will stop a lot of the leak.
